This past week my Grandpa (Martin) passed away. It was exactly one year ago on the same first Tuesday of March that my Grandma (his wife) passed away. It is sad to see him go, but at the same time it is such a blessing that he and my grandma can be together again. He was just so lonely this last year. It is also a blessing he was able to go so quickly. He has been VERY healthy this last year and then about two weeks ago he got sick and then just quickly went down hill fast. So I am glad that he was able to not suffer or deal with challenging health issues for very long. Of course I miss him, but I am thankful for the knowledge that we have of eternal life and the plan of salvation and I am excited to be able to see him again. He was such a good man and grandpa. I am thankful for the example he has been to me in so many ways.
We left here last Friday. Jackson woke up at 5:00 in the morning and never did go back to sleep the rest of the day (literally wake until 8:00 that night). I thought he was going to be so grumpy, but he was as happy as can be! To which I was sooooo grateful! There was a viewing at 6:00, so we were trying to get there before that. We made it in great time.
On Saturday was his funeral. We had a nice graveside service, complete with a military presence since my Grandpa served in the Navy. Then that evening we all went to my grandparents home and got to choose a few things that were special to us. It was really nice to be together as a family.
We were supposed to go home on Sunday, but since my Dad needed to stay a little longer and he also needed the bigger car (we had driven), Jackson and I stayed behind, while Rachael, Ryan, Craig, and Marc all headed back to Utah. Not enough room in the car and they all needed to get back for work, school etc....so we sacrificed! :) It was fun to spend a few extra days in the warm California weather. We drove home on Tuesday.
