Cockroaches and Silverfish.
July 1, 2009

Okay, so I put up with the silverfish, but the minute I saw cockroach's it was over!  I called the exterminator immediately.   It became more of an ordeal than I ever thought it would be.

So the first extremely annoying thing that happened...we had to move everything away from the walls, empty ALL the cupboards in the kitchen, empty all the bathrooms, and empty all the closets.  Lame-o.  I mean good so they can spray everywhere, but it took forever.  Basically we really just moved out of the apartment and then had to move back in.  We dumped everything into one LARGE pile in the middle of the family room floor.

The next morning we were told we couldn't leave until the exterminator got here, which really I didn't want to go anywhere until he got here.  He didn't come until 11:30!  We had no where to sit and nothing to do...because, smart mom, I didn't leave anything out.  It was an ordeal to get to  anything.

During our time of waiting I was in our room when suddenly I heard a crack and then sliding noise! I thought Jackson must have gotten into something, when I looked out in the kitchen the table leg had snapped and all the food had slid off the table.  I should have taken another picture as I got further into the mess there was a ton of broken glass and food everywhere.  It was not fun to clean up.
But the time the exterminator arrived I was on the verge of going crazy.  I was just excited to get out of the house, when the next issue of bad luck happened.  He took one look at Bennett and told me that a child that young was not allowed back into the apartment for 24 hours!  Say what?  And the rest of us weren't allowed in for the next 5 hours.  So I was headed out the door with almost nothing in hand and not sure if I needed to be grabbing overnight stuff for all of us.  Let just say I was a little overwhelmed at this point and really wasn't sure if I was going to bust up laughing or break down in tears.  :)

I called Marc and he had to head into a class but told me he would come up with a solution.  I was thinking I might call my family in Hemet and see if we could come down there for the night, but didn't want to do anything until Marc got out of his class.  When Marc got out of his class he called and said he had booked us two nights down at a Marriott in Newport.  He had done a priceline bid and had gotten a $300 room for $50 a night.

I spend the rest of the day wondering the mall, target, and eating lunch at In-n-out.  Sounds more fun than it was.  I really don't know how homeless people do it.  I hate not having a place to just go and sit or be.  It sounds easy enough to just wander the mall or sit on a bench and let Jackson play at a park, but after while you just want to be home.  We picked Marc up from school and then headed back to our apartment.

Newport turned out to be a fun little vacation for us.  After enough time had passed, I went back into our apartment and left Marc in the car with the boys.  Packed us all on overnight bag (which sounds easier than it was...what with all of our belongings in one big pile in our apartment) and we drove down to Newport.

The Marriott sits out away from the beach in an are
We spent the next day swimming in the pool and relaxing on the beach.

When we got home it took us a solid 24 hours to put everything back into cupboards, closets, and cabinets.  Needless to say, our fourth of July was spent in our apartment organizing and cleaning.  Jackson didn't even realize it was a holiday and I felt a little sad inside when we heard fireworks going off outside and we weren't doing anything to celebrate.  But I guess we did at least get a fun trip down to Newport, so I can't complain too much.  :)

What a disaster! But a fun mini vacation that came of it. Hope your home is 100% roach free now. We have to deal w/ roaches at my Grandma's all the time. I'm always afraid I'm going to step on a dead one on the way to the bathrm in the middle of the night and super afraid that one day I'll find lil' Macy playing with a dead one. I should look into exterminators...
