Venting.

Okay, so I have learned the lesson the hard way and have no way of making it better. I am the most frustrated person right now. Let me back up a little a share a story with you...

Today I decided to make my Mom and apron from Mothers Day (duh...I should have thought of this idea weeks ago). Anyway, I decided to go to a few local quilt shops. The first one I went into I found an apron pattern that looked strangely familiar.

Oh yeah, that's because it was mine!!! Right now you are probably cheering and thinking, way to go Michelle, you got your patterns into stores?! How great is that?

Well, it would be if I had been the one to actually sell it to the store, but I wasn't. However, I checked the name of the pattern and guess what? It was the name of someone I sold an apron to a few months back. Um, lame....more than lame. I can hardly stand to think about her. I can't believe what this world is coming to.

Where's the Honesty?

If I could see that girl now I am pretty sure I might punch her in the nose. Who does that (not the punching in the nose...the stealing of my pattern)?

I guess I assumed people were honest and no one would do that to me. I know the idea (of having someone steal my designs) has crossed my mind, but never in a million years did I really expect it to. I guess I just hoped more people in the world were honest and wouldn't do that to me.

Well, I just needed to get that out there. Especially since there is nothing I can do about it. I am thinking I might try to confront her about it, just so she knows that I know, but I am not that great at confrontation. I've have times in my life where I have really wanted to tell someone off, but no nerve to do it. Maybe through email, the beauty of email.....usually thought of as the curse, but right now it might just be beauty. :)

That really stinks Michelle! You should confront her. Who knows...maybe it will scare her a little bit. I saw a little kiosk in the mall that was selling aprons the other day that looked like yours too. Have you seen them? Are they that ladies??

That is horrible--and I think you should definitely say something to her. Too bad she can't come up with her own ideas!

Oh Michelle--that made me so so upset reading that. You should definitely confront her--maybe she will take them off the market. BEcause YOU should be the one selling those patterns!! I am so sorry that happened.

Just reading that makes me SO mad. I can't believe that! It really makes me sick inside on how people are these days. You should definitely confront her! She has no right to do that and you have a right to tell her to stop plagiarizing your ideas! You should even talk to the fabric store and tell them that they are supporting a cheater :) If they want original, honest ideas, they should come to you.
This is also a good opportunity for you to get proactive and start going to store and try to get deals with them and sell your stuff...things have happened to us and the things we similar make...I think you find conniving people everywhere. So I completely understand your frustration. I hope she gets what she deserves!!

That is so horrible, this makes me sooo mad! I seriously can Not believe she would that. You have to confront her and not only confront her but also ask her to stop. What she is doing is stealing. Aren't your aprons copywrited? If they are what she is doing is not only wrong but illegal. If your aprons aren't copywrited I would get them pattoned as soon as possible. Then get out there and sell them to stores before someone else does that to you, or this girl takes it further and sells your patterns to a bunch of other stores, if she hasn't already. But for sure, say something to her and ask her to stop. I am so sorry Michelle, you work so hard, that is so sad. Let us know what happens.

Oh Michelle...I feel horrible for you! It's pretty surprising what some people will do to get ahead. I agree with everyone else--confront her! I would be horrible at it, but I bet you have it in you. She needs to know that you know what she's doing.

Oh, that makes me sick to my stomach to hear that! I'm so sorry! What a horrible feeling! I've never understood why people would do something like that! You definitely need to do something proactive about it especially before she takes it to a point where you're not able to sell your own aprons because she's copyrighted them!

Dan here, Lindsey told me about this and it blew my mind. This is despicable! Seriously, I would not put up with this. Not to be cynical, but this girl has already shown her true colors and there is no reason for her not to take this further. If she coywrites your designs, then she would be able to prevent you from selling your aprons at all. Copywrite your stuff, get a lawyer, and stop her from doing this trash. I really think you could find some legal help here if you called around. Either way, we hope for the best for you both. Especially such an O-chem genious like Marc. Good luck!
